The Toronto Maple Leafs tried a number of different things in order to secure of a veteran backup goaltender for Frederik Andersen this season, but it now appears they have given up on at least one of those projects.
Sportsnet senior hockey writer Chris Johnston is now reporting that veteran goaltender Karri Ramo has been released by the Maple Leafs, and furthermore it appears that Ramo is headed back to Findland.
The Leafs has signed Ramo to a professional tryout back in December, but he was frankly nothing short of abysmal in his three appearances for the Marlies and at no point did it seem like he would truly evolve into a viable option for the club.
Karri Ramo has formally been released from his PTO by the Toronto Marlies. His injury rehab continues in Finland.
